Beverly Wilkinson Powell Scholarship

Created by Hampton O. Powell to honor his wife, Beverly Wilkinson Powell and to assist a deserving student from Altavista High School.

The student shall be a resident of the Altavista area and have attended Altavista High School.
If no student from the Altavista area meets the other requirements, students from Campbell, Bedford, Pittsylvania, Amherst and Charlotte Counties and the City of Lynchburg can be considered.
In addition, if descendants of Mrs. Powell from any geographic area have a demonstrated financial need and meet ’the other requirements, they may be considered.
The student must be accepted for admission as a full-time student at Longwood.
The Longwood College Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient based on a demonstrated financial need and promise for success in college.
As long as the recipient maintains a 2.0 grade point average and demonstrates a financial need, the scholarship is renewable.

Preference: Donor prefers larger amounts go to students in the Altavista Lynch-Station area rather than smaller amounts spread across the larger region.
VERY IMPORTANT: Beyond renewals, only Altavista HS student get the award split between them. Ask Burt if you have any questions.
