Dorothy Martin Green Scholarship
Ann Green Baise wrote,
" I established this scholarship in memory of my mother who did not have the opportunity to go to college. She studied business at Culpeper County High School and became a secretary/bookkeeper for a local business. The owner of the business had a college degree. She saw how advantageous it was for him as she watched how successful he became.
Growing up I had many dreams and aspirations.. pharmacist, bare back rider in the circus, teacher.. to name a few. My mother always encouraged me to reach my dreams BUT she always stated “after you finish college.” She said she would pay for my education with the stipulation that I was to attend an all girl’s college in the Commonwealth. At that time, Longwood, Radford, and Mary Washington were the only non-coed state schools. I only applied to Longwood and luckily was accepted.
My mother’s faith, love, and guidance have made me the person I am today. I am honored to establish this scholarship to help another first generation college attendee reach her or his goals."
